South African Bursaries 2016/2017

The following alphabetical list is by no means exhaustive. Please check individually with each fund for full requirements, benefits and relevant application dates.

ABSA provides the opportunity to fulfill your dream of working in the field of finance and banking.

ACCENTURE SOUTH AFRICA LTD is a multinational consulting firm that has three main service lines: management consulting, technology and outsourcing.

ANG LO AMERICAN PLATINUM places a high degree of importance on the training and development in
the company and in the mining industry. Its bursary scheme is mainly designed to give young professionals an entry point into the company.

AURECON provides engineering management and specialist technical services for government and private sector clients globally. Scheme offers top performing scholars and students financial support covering engineering related degrees at accredited universities. This applies to undergraduate level degrees in the following fields: civil electrical and mechanical engineering.

BBD bursary programme is aimed at providing support for financially needy, talented Information Technology IT students in selected fields who are considering a career in building and creating software
and computers. BBD contributes to certain costs associated with university studies such as tuition fees prescribed books residence accommodation and meals along with a monthly allowance for incidentals.

BMW Financial Support And Development Programme for high potential future employee's offers participants paid vocational experience the opportunity to participate in dialogue development sessions
with BMW associates individual projects and assignments as well as the potential to further participate in the BMW SA Graduate Programme. Applications will be accepted annually during September.

BRITISH AMERICAN TOBACCO invites post graduate level candidates following these fields of study although also not limited to only these: marketing; accounting; information technology and industrial

CLOVER bursaries will be awarded to those studying within one of the following fields: engineering; finance; food science; logistics; supply chain and marketing.

CSIR is pleased to announce a comprehensive bursary programme that is aimed at providing support for talented students in selected fields of science, engineering and technology (SET). Both academic merit and financial need will be considered during the selection process as well as the imperative to increase the participation of women and black people in SET.

DELOITTE Financial Contribution Fund supports the best students in the world in the pursuit of their dream of qualifying as chartered accountants.

ERNEST AND YOUNG offers high achievers the opportunity to further their careers and achieve their goals while presenting their clients the best in the financial fields of assurance tax or advisory services.

ESKOM offers a wide range of bursaries for study at universities, TVET colleges, focusing on engineering and supporting occupations and trades.

EXXARO is a top 40 JSE constituent and a South-Africa founded mining group. This group is offering matriculated South Africans the opportunity to obtain a degree or diploma in the mining industry.

FIDE LITY FUND bursaries are made available yearly for study in the law fields as well as further study in these fields. The Fund is dedicated to aiding the education of legal practices within South Africa. They also allocate fund for the following institutes: LSSA - Law Society of South Africa BLA - Black Lawyers Association Law Faculties at South African Universities Law Clinics at South African Universities.

FIRST NATIONA L BANK offers talented candidates who have the potential but not the finances to achieve their dreams by offering study bursaries to qualifying candidates. FNB strives to aid in building a better future for all by providing opportunities for financially needy and talented candidates to become a
significant part of the countries workforce.

FIRST RAND LAURIE DIPPENAAR SCHO LAR - SHIP aids exceptional students from South Africa to complete their postgraduate studies abroad in any country and any field. Scholarships is for a maximum period of two years and to the value of R400 000 per year to cover tuition, books, accommodation, meals and other relevant needs.

FUN ZA LUSHAKA bursary programme is a national programme headed by the Department of Basic Education, funded by the National Treasury and administered by the National Student financial aid Scheme.

GOLD FIELDS offers a limited number of bursaries yearly to students aiming for a bachelor's degree and to work within the engineering and mining sectors. There are also study possibilities for TVET colleges.

GLENCORE offers bursaries across its coal and ferro alloys operations in the disciplines of mining engineering i.e. electrical; chemical; mechanical; metallurgical; as well as BCom financial management and geology.

HARMONY GOLD provides employment for a great many South Africans as well as opportunities to develop appropriate skills, knowledge and qualifications in the mining field.

HCI FOUNDATION provides 950 bursaries every year to financially needy students at universities. They build reliable relationships with the beneficiaries and work to identify their gifts and capabilities. Applications for the 2017 intake will open on 1 August 2016.

INVESTEC bursaries were formed in order to develop the skills of young individuals by enabling them to further their education and to ensure that they are ready for employment after successfully completing their studies.

KPMG has a number of programmes to give accountants and auditors a head start in the business world.

LONMIN Bursary Scheme has been established to assist potential students to attain qualifications in mining-related disciplines, thereby contributing to the general upliftment of skills and qualification levels in the mining sector.

OLD MUTUAL offers access to both traditional and alternative forms of tertiary education and skills development.

MINTEK is South Africa's national mineral research organisation and is one of the world's leading technology organisations specialising in mineral processing, extractive metallurgy and related areas.

MONDI provides bursaries to 1st year students studying BSc Forestry at Stellenbosch University and National Diploma Forestry bursaries based on the application and successful completion of the Forestry
Traineeship by community youth.

MURRAY & ROBERTS offers bursaries for top South African achievers who desire to be part of a world class organisation with a global presence. Bursaries are available for students studying towards a BSc, BEng or BTech qualifications in the fields of engineering (civil; mechanical; industrial; electrical and mining), quantity surveying, building and construction management.

MTN FOUNDATION not only has bursaries to offer talented candidates, but moreover also learnerships and graduate development programmes. MTN SA is proud to be building and developing South Africa's
economy, skilled work force and also contribute to creating jobs.

NEDBANK believes in aiding the youth to build a better future. The bursary programme is only one of the ways in which Nedbank is making a change and uplifting not only candidates but also communities.

PRICEWATERHOUSE - COOPERS offers students the following degree courses: Business science leading to chartered accountant (at SAICA universities). accounting bachelor, accounting (BCOM).

RHODES TRUST offers four scholarships every year for applicants from South Africaat-Large, and one for KZN, in addition to several for selected candidates from specified schools. The Rhodes Trust warmly welcomes applications from talented young women and men of diverse backgrounds.

SANLAM provides matriculated South Africans with the opportunity to obtain a degree or diploma within the financial industry. Areas of offered bursaries: personal studies; business studies; institutional studies and markets studies.

SIEMENS bursaries are open to three students in grades 9-12. Available for math, science and technology.

SAICA offers Grade 12 students in South Africa or students who have completed Grade 12 not more than two years ago the opportunity to study BCom Accounting. The Thuthuka Bursary Fund is available to selected African and Coloured young South Africans. Applications close at the end of April each year.

SAPPI awards a number of bursaries each year based on its annual skills audit and business needs in the following study fields: BSc in electrical engineering, chemical engineering and mechanical engineering; BSc Forestry; National Diploma in Forestry .

SOUTH AFRICAN INSTITUTE OF RACE RELATIONS (IRR) has provided more than R221 million in bursary funding and produced over 3 600 medical, business, management, scientific, education, and engineering graduates. Bursary applications are accepted for two months only - from the beginning of July until the end of August each year.

SASOL bursaries are awarded for full-time university studies in the fields of engineering, science and
commerce disciplines, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Upon successful completion of the study period, students may be employed within the Sasol Group through their Novice Professional Development Programme. Applications must be submitted by 31 March for the following academic year.

SHOPRITE bursaries can range from R30 000 to R60 000, depending on the course of study and institution. The company aims to ensure that the bursary value covers tuition, books, as well as an allowance for accommodation. Bursaries available: retail, pharmacy, accounting, logistics, information technology.

STANDARD BANK bursary scheme is targeted at schoolleavers (matriculants or A level students) wishing to pursue an undergraduate degree in commerce, science, engineering or technology. Through the Derek Cooper Scholarship Standard Bank aims to champion those African leaders who will actively
build a future for Africa, led by Africans. Nine students will be carefully vetted and selected to complete their post-graduate studies at the prestigious institutions of Cambridge, Oxford and The London School
of Economics and Political Science in the United Kingdom.

STAN LIB Bursary Sponsorship Programme gives academically outstanding and previously disadvantaged students the opportunity to study at any public university in South Africa.
Students studying towards a degree for the following qualifications are urged to apply for funding: actuarial sciences;economics; finance; investment management and accounting.

STEFANUTTI STOCKS offers financial aid for students as well as experiential learning on sites all over the country and possibly in Africa. Field Of Study: BSc or BTech in engineering, management and business science relating to construction field.


STEEL AND ENGINEERING INDUSTRIES FEDERATION OF SOUTHERN AFRICA (SEIFSA) awards apprentice bursaries as well as tertiary education bursaries to individuals pursuing studies in the engineering sciences in the steel and engineering environment.

STUDY TRUST administers partial and full-cost bursaries on behalf of a number of sponsors, including several of the large banks and financial institutions, as well as Pick n Pay Employee Bursary Scheme and
Sun International Community Development Trust. Applications for requesting forms open 31 August, and close for submissions on 30 September every year.

SUGAR INDUSTRY TRUST FUND FOR EDUCATION (SITFE) was launched in 1965 as a private sector, and is one of South Africa's oldest education and training programmes.

TELKOM offers full-time bursaries for undergraduate studies in identified core fields, namely: electrical engineering (light current) information technology, computer science marketing, and accounting. Postgraduate bursaries are offered to candidates who continue their studies and research via the Telkom Centres of Excellence (COE) programme.

TRANSNET bursaries in the fields of engineering will be open depending on the needs of the company. The comprehensive bursary covers the following: tuition fees; accommodation and meals; book allowance and experiential training. Students are allowed to study at a South African university of their own choice who offers the relevant fields of study.

TFG (THE FOSCHINI GROUP) BURSARY is unique in that it aims to develop empowered fashion professionals who can take fashion from 'concept to consumer', supported by a sound academic foundation in fashion.

UNI LEVER offers engineering bursaries in supply chain management.

VODACOM is committed to addressing the ICT skills shortage in South Africa by annually providing fifty
students with bursaries to study in fields in which there are skills shortages. Top achieving students from
disadvantaged communities are chosen to study in the ICT and engineering sectors, for diplomas and degrees in similar areas of study.

VOLKSWAGEN applications are made available the beginning of June and close the middle of August.
Following areas apply: logistics, corporate communications, public relations, purchasing, engineering, information technology, human resources, sales and marketing
